How to Learn to Play The Piano: Some Hints!

No matter what you think, if you are a prospective adult student, you can learn how to play the piano if you can set some goals.  Piano is a wonderful universal instrument to learn around the world, because no matter what part of this world you travel you will most likely find a piano somewhere, in some room!  Music is the language of communication with all nationalities, and what better way to make friends with others if you learn how to play the piano. It’s great to play at parties, special occasions, and accompany sing-a-longs with friends and family.  Music adds such a festive component to any celebration.

You can learn in a couple of ways.  There are online piano tutorials that are very popular and thorough so you can learn on your own at your own pace.  What is a lot of fun is that you can learn along with a family member or friend—and help each other in the process.  You can save money so that you do not have to have a teacher every week.  If you can afford a private teacher, then you should really try it.  To find a private teacher, ask people who are taking lessons already.  Get the teacher’s phone number or email address and interview them. Don’t be intimidated—tell them what your goals are.  Find out what their teaching specialty is and what their teaching philosophy is all about.

Keep a positive attitude, set small goals to reach a big goal, and don’t compare yourself to anybody who is a prodigy or extremely gifted.  This is about YOU, not them.   Children may learn faster but you can learn if you don’t set up blocks in your mind.  Stay focused and determined to reach your small goals. Don’t forget to review—but force yourself to forge ahead and learn new material.
